Questions

How often is the rain radar updated?

The Meteorological Service Singapore publishes a new 50-km rain-area image every five minutes; SGWeather shows the newest frame and the previous half hour.

What is the difference between the radar and the rain gauges?

The radar shows where rain is falling across the island and towards Johor and Batam; the gauges are NEA instruments on the ground that record how much fell in the last five minutes at each site.

Can I tell whether rain is coming my way?

Play the last six frames and watch the direction of movement. Sumatra squalls typically cross from west to east in the early morning; afternoon thunderstorms tend to build over the island and drift slowly.
